When you’re beginning to do makeup, doing your eyeliner is probably the scariest part. Because you must be very precise when applying it. An eyeliner can enhance your look when applied properly or destroy it when the line is not even/smooth enough. But really, everything is possible! When I only started with makeup, you do not even want to know how ugly my eyeliner was! The main thing is you need to practice. But knowing some theory will not hurt either. Today I will explain the basic types of eyeliners.
This is the most common type of eyeliners. But it can come in two different forms:
a pen with a brush
This is not the easiest way to apply the eyeliner. It depends on the brush actually, but the most of them are quite hard to get used to. It is quite hard to smudge this one. You need to apply it, let it dry a little. This is more for the advanced users. The tip here is to apply eyeliner with the whole surface of the brush. It is much easier than trying to apply it with the brush’s end only.
a felt eyeliner pen
This is a much easier tool. I began with those felt eyeliner pens. It is easier because the ending is quite hard, it is exactly like drawing with a felt pen. They do tend to dry out a bit faster than all other eyeliners.
This is the easiest to begin with. It is easier than liquid eyeliners because you can easily smudge it out if you did some mistake to reach a smokey eyes effect. But the disadvantage is that normally a pencil eyeliner doesn’t last as long as the liquid eyeliner does. I also like to use pencil eyeliner as a base for my liquid eyeliner: that way it is easier to apply the latter and this combination will last longer.
My favourites! You will need to buy a brush to use those. Normally, the brushes are not included. You are all free to choose the brush you like! Which is definitely a plus for me. I like the gel eyeliners because they last forever, they give you a nice intense color and they are infinite!
This is kind of eyeshadow but it’s much more hard than a normal eyeshadow. To apply it, you need to use a brush. I prefer to wetten my brush before applying: that way the color will be more intense and deep. You can apply a standard eyeshadow as an eyeliner too. But choose the high pigmented eyeshadow, otherwise you are risking to see nothing.
