Question of the day:

Anna, I would like to find out how to choose a nail polish. Sometimes it looked pretty in the bottle but made my hands look pale when I applied it. Also, how do you know if quality of a polish is good or bad? Thanks!

Hi!

I must say, you never know whether a polish is good or bad just by looking at the bottle. You always have to try it out. But I do have some rules: overall, the polishes of the same brand are of more or less the same quality. There are always exceptions though. So what I do, I buy one polish of unknown brand, test it out and then decide whether or not I want to try out more. For now, my favorite polish brand is OPI: great polishes, perfect longevity, good brush, many collections with interesting shades. I also like Dior (nice brushes, good longevity), Chanel (interesting, unusual shades), Mavala (they’re great), Catrice, Essence (good price-quality relation).

What refers to the shades, if your skin is pale and your veins can be seen through, avoid pale polishes that have same undertones in it as your veins do. For example, if your skin is pale and your veins are purple, avoid all kinds of pale lilas and violets.
